Baahubali 2 Review

Baahubali 2 gives you the high of reading an amazingly written epic novel. Director SS Rajamouli has already transported us to the world of Magizhmathi in the first part, where we lived with characters Baahubali (Prabhas), ‘Rajamatha’ Sivagami (Ramya Krishnan), Pingalathevan (Nasser), Palvallathevan (Rana Daggubatti) , Kattappa (Satyaraj) Avantika (Tamannaah)and Devasena (Anushka Shetty). You already know how they smile, react and spill anger.

However, there is still a mystery and excitement to watch the sequel which is definitely much better than the first part. A giant leap for Indian cinema and easily it is that one film which every south Indian can be proud of. While the first part established the revenge angle, grandiose setup with stellar war sequences, the second part is filled with lot of emotions and will definitely touch your heart.

The plot of Baahubali 2 is simple- Palvallathevan cunningly kills Baahubali (Amarendra Baahubali) through the royal slave Kattappa and also arrests Baahubali’s wife Devasena. Saved by the sacrifice of Sivagami, Mahendra Baahubali (Prabhas) comes to know about the cruel death of his dad and takes revenge against his uncle Palvallathevan to become the king of Magizhmathi kingdom.

The biggest success of Rajamouli is the way he elevates mass heroism of his protagonist. Check out the introductory scene of Prabhas on an elephant or the awesome interval block. It is definitely going to give you Goosebumps.

The newborn baby of Amarendra Baahubali and Devasena is sworn in as king by one single powerful dialogue uttered by Sivagami. Not only heroism, Rajamouli slowly but steadily injects the revenge flavor in our veins, when Palvallathevan tries to tear the heart of Mahendra Baahubali, we feel like breaking the head of latter and it happens. Palvallathevan treats Devasena like a slave so he deserves to die in a fire and it happens. A villain tries to sexually harass Devasena, we want his fingers to be chopped off, it happens. Rajamouli gives everything we wish for as an audience.

The best thing about Baahubali is Prabhas. He is so comfortable and convincing playing the role and his unwavering commitment to the role, the powerful emotions in his eyes are awesome. Anushka not only looks beautiful and slim but carries the powerful role as Devasena with élan. Ramya Krishnan looks majestic and you can never take your eyes off her. Wish Rana had more screen space but he excels as Bhallaladeva. Tamannaah has nothing at all to do in part-2 except one scene in the end. Satyaraj is terrific wile Nassar shines.

The biggest highlight of Baahubali 2 is MM Keeravani. His songs and background score are truly epic. Also, kudos to the VFX team and cinematographer for their magnificent presentation. On the downside, the running time of 2 hours 48 minutes, the film feels too long with the long drawn-out revenge portion and over the top action sequences in the climax. But when we are ready to accept Spiderman, Superman and Ironman, why not the towering heroism of our own superhero Baahubali?
